Ontario English Catholic Teachers

Indigenous Education Resources

Saturday, September 30 is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (NDTR) and Orange Shirt Day. This year, NDTR and Orange Shirt Day fall on a Saturday, so we are encouraging all Catholic teachers to commemorate and recognize this important day on Friday, September 29 in their classrooms.

As teachers, we have a responsibility to take action in our classrooms and communities to champion the message that every child matters. As part of this commitment to action, we strongly encourage all Catholic teachers to engage with their students in the important and necessary discussions of the histories of Indigenous peoples and Canada’s residential school system.

To support you in your learning, instructional practices, and as part of our shared commitment to Truth and Reconciliation, please see the collection of resources that the Association has put together to support NDTR- and Orange Shirt Day-specific activities.

This page also provides information, lesson plans, resources, activities, and more, all related to Indigenous issues and education, which can be incorporated into your classroom lessons and teaching practices. Within each category, resources are listed alphabetically.

In this educational resource video produced by Facing History & Ourselves, Indigenous leaders, educators, and scholars discuss what it means to work toward reconciliation in Canada. See the different categories for more educational resources from Facing History & Ourselves and other Indigenous organizations.
